Ashley Ortega

Hi, my name is Ashley Ortega and I’m a 4th year journalism major with a minor in Television, Film, and New Media. I’ve been pursuing a career in journalism since the seventh grade when I joined my middle school newspaper. I mainly hope to find a career in the writing realm of journalism as opposed to broadcasting or photography. I’ve just always gravitated towards writing, and my love for it is what made me want to become a journalist.

While I’m open to writing about any topic, my heart lies with the arts and entertainment. I find all aspects of the arts incredibly important and interesting to report on. Specifically, I want to one day be a magazine writer or columnists covering films and TV and possibly theater.

A saying that I follow is “Journalism allows its readers to witness history; fiction gives its readers an opportunity to live it.” by John Hersey. Hersey, with this quote, is referring to a new style of journalism where he incorporated fiction literature techniques in journalism. This style of journalism is something I hope to follow with my writing in my career.
